Reciprocity INTO Illinois

Professionals certified by an IC&RC member board who relocate to Illinois may transfer their credential to ICB using the reciprocity process. No additional requirements will have to be met by the certified professional using this process, other than joining the Illinois board.

To begin the reciprocity process, certified professionals must contact their current credentialing board and request a reciprocity application. Upon completion of the reciprocity application by both the certified professional and the current credentialing board and upon receipt of this information by ICB, ICB will issue the certified professional the equivalent credential.

The issued certificate will expire the same date as the reciprocal credential would have, and after expiration, the member will have to be renew with ICB at current fees and practices. In Illinois, you are required to document 40, ICB approved, continuing education hours every two years as well as recertification fees. Please know that there is a $150 fee that IC&RC charges to transfer each credential.

Reciprocity OUT of Illinois

Professionals certified as a CRADC, CSADC, CAADC, CPS, CSPS, CCJP or CPRS by ICB who relocate to another state, country or nation, may transfer their credential to the new jurisdiction using the reciprocity process only if the new jurisdiction is an IC&RC member board. Reciprocity to a non IC&RC member board is not permitted.

Additional requirements may be imposed upon the certified professional depending on the laws and regulations governing the practice of substance use related services in the new jurisdiction. Therefore, certified professionals are strongly encouraged to contact the IC&RC board in the new jurisdiction to determine if any additional requirements must be met.

To begin the reciprocity process, certified professionals must contact ICB and request a reciprocity application, Upon completion of the reciprocity application by both the certified professional and ICB and upon receipt of this information in the new jurisdiction, that board will then issue the certified professional the equivalent credential offered unless laws or regulations governing the practice of substance use related services in the new jurisdiction must first be met. Please know that there is a $150 fee that IC&RC charges to transfer each credential.

Please note that the CADC credential is not eligible for reciprocity, the CADC is an Illinois specific credential. If you currently hold a CADC, you must transition to the CRADC level or above to reciprocate.
